Trustees
John Anderson Bca - Chairman
I am married to Rachael, and we have a son, Lewis. Our family is deeply involved in the community. I am a self-employed landlord and run a property maintenance company. Besides Burton HOPE, I chair several diverse organizations to make a difference locally and beyond. For my efforts, I received a British Citizens Award.
I love the outdoors and enjoy angling, boating, climbing, and walking. As a keen environmentalist, I am concerned about conservation and frustrated by modern living’s impact on the planet. Inequality also drives my work, especially with Burton HOPE, where I advocate for the homeless and give a voice to the unheard. I find satisfaction in making change, despite the challenges posed by the establishment.

Anne Bradshaw
I joined Burton HOPE in 2018, initially working on the front line in the Market Place. During COVID-19, I adapted policies and wrote risk assessments to ensure the safety of our service users and volunteers. I continue to bring my professional skills to Burton HOPE to help it progress.
I have extensive experience in acute mental health, drug and alcohol dependency with the NHS, and have worked as a Care Manager and Community Care Manager in Social Care and Health. My roles included health & safety, policies, staff management, care planning, and assessments. I also hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Person-Centred). Though retired, I remain active with Burton HOPE and serve as a Trustee.
Madeleine Braithwaite
As a volunteer Trustee, I bring a variety of transferable skills to the table with having worked within the NHS for over 47 years in clinical and senior leadership roles which has extended to working at both regional and national level.
I have had the privilege to have worked in an inclusive culture where diversity was at the heart of everyday practices where I routinely managed specific health needs of some of the most vulnerable of the population.
I have a lived understanding of how life circumstances can dramatically change causing housing, social, and financial insecurity, which ultimately impacts on health and well-being.
I believe Burton HOPE offers a beginning of the journey for our service users to help them achieve better outcomes in life.
Nicky Johnson
I have been Secretary since January 2024.
I got involved in Burton HOPE by my son volunteering for his Duke of Edinburgh awards. I have been a school governor for over 10 years and have experience in administration and finance. I am also a mental health first aider.
Karen Hyde
I have 24 years of experience as a teacher and headteacher mainly in schools in challenging circumstances supporting students and families struggling with day-to-day living. I believe I can bring this experience and a range of transferable skills to Burton HOPE to support the aims,
objectives and further development of this fantastic charity.
I also volunteer for several different charities with a focus on Disaster Relief and Search and Rescue.
Tim Hyde
I am married to Karen and we have three children and one grandchild. I retired after a full career in Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service. I enjoy golf, scuba diving, travel and walking. During my career and since I have gained enormous satisfaction from helping people in need.
I have been responsible for the control of large budgets as well as policy development and delivery over many years and hope to contribute to the trustee team to ensure that this great charity moves from strength to strength.
Katherine Davies
I have been a volunteer with Burton HOPE since January 2022, I started volunteering as a work placement from college and when my 170 hours were completed, I couldn’t leave. Burton HOPE had become my family and holds a special place in my heart. It’s helped me grow and change into the person I am today and I couldn’t be more grateful. Burton HOPE opened my eyes to the deprivation and financial insecurity that is on everyone’s doorstep and I carry that with me as I study to become a social worker through my social science degree.
Christian Kitchen
I began my journey as a volunteer with Burton HOPE in March 2023, starting out as part of my Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award requirements. During my time there, I completed the necessary hours, but I found that I wasn’t ready to leave. Volunteering at Burton HOPE allowed me to see firsthand the significant impact the charity has on the local community, and I had the privilege of meeting some truly remarkable individuals who are dedicated to making a difference.
Through my experience, I gained a deeper understanding of the various struggles faced by our service users, many of whom are dealing with significant challenges in their lives. This exposure has opened my eyes to the complexities of their situations and the genuine need for support within our community. I wholeheartedly believe that Burton HOPE provides invaluable assistance, creating programs and offering resources that empower our service users and help them navigate their difficulties. The work being done here is not only vital but incredibly rewarding, and I am grateful to be part of such a meaningful cause.
